3.8 Rolling and Myofascial Release

11 mins

As you begin to build more strength, your muscles may begin to feel tight. That tightness can also cause pain, so we want to make sure that as we build muscular tone, we are also able to release, find ease and pliability in the muscle. In addition, sometimes it’s not just the muscles but the fascia, the thin layer that surrounds each muscle (and every fiber in our body!), that is not released. In this video, we’ll go over some basic rolling techniques for key muscles related to low back pain. Keeping the muscles and fascia released can be a key for eliminating pain. It can feel difficult or challenging in the moment, but afterwards, you should feel better. If you don’t and your pain increases, please stop rolling. This likely means your nervous system is overstimulated, or the rolling was done with too much force. Remember, everyone’s body is different so do what works and feels good to you!
